Founded in 1991, the University of Potsdam has firmly established itself in the academic landscape and has developed into an outstanding economic factor and development driver for the region. The University has a high level of third‑party funding, has won several teaching awards, has a service‑oriented administration and has been recognised as a family‑friendly employer. Around 22,000 students and 3,000 employees work at three locations – Am Neuen Palais, Griebnitzsee and Golm – at one of the most beautifully situated academic campuses in Germany.
The General Geology working group at the Institute of Geosciences, which currently consists of three permanent and nine temporary scientific staff and three technical staff, is responsible for teaching in the fields of general geosciences, structural geology, tectonics and Earth surface processes in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Geosciences. The research activities of the group combine studies of tectonics, climate and surface processes on different time scales with the overall aim of gaining a better understanding of these complex interacting processes that shape our planet and our habitat. Our laboratory facilities include a full range of low‑temperature thermochronological methods as well as GIS resources, a 3D laboratory and a graphics laboratory. The working language of the research group is English.
There is the possibility of further academic qualification (Habilitation). At least one third of the respective working time is available for personal research work.
