3D-Clothing Designer (f/m/div)

Stellenbeschreibung:

The Perceiving Systems Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen is creating the world’s most realistic human avatars for use in research, film, virtual reality, and medicine. They are looking for a 3D-Clothing Designer to join their team.

The Project

The goal of the project is to construct a unique database of clothing with:

  • variation in styles across cultures and time — large variation
  • a taxonomy that structures the garments into classes
  • text-based descriptions of the garment properties
  • variation of features like collars, pockets, buttons, etc.
  • varied material properties
  • grading of some or all garments

The goal will be to have a dataset of sufficient size to be useful for training large models and of sufficient realism to be useful for many applications.

You will construct a large dataset of 3D garments for use in machine learning and computer vision.

The project requires specialist knowledge of the following:

  • clothing pattern making and grading
  • the SMPL 3D body model and body shape
  • draping and physics simulation of clothing
  • how 3D clothing is used to train AI systems

Education & Experience

  • You need to have sufficient experience and background to work closely with machine learning and computer vision researchers in refining the dataset and its requirements.
  • A Bachelor for Fashion Design or equivalent training is required.
  • Fluent English is required.

The Offer

You will be working on cutting-edge technologies related to computer vision and multi-sensor systems as a part of a young international team. Salaries will be based on previous work experience according to TVöD guidelines. This is a full-time position. The contract will be offered for two years.
