The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus‑Senftenberg (BTU), the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, BAM) advertise 9 PhD positions in the new BTU‑DLR‑BAM Cooperation ('skai)-lab.
The cooperation ('skai)-lab focuses on quality control, structural health monitoring and operational safety of additively manufactured components for electrified aero engines, combining expertise in additive manufacturing, non‑destructive testing and structural monitoring with application requirements for novel propulsion concepts and aviation components. It aims to train the next generation of interdisciplinary aviation and manufacturing scientists.
The core of ('skai)-lab is a unique aviation‑focused qualification programme, providing all PhD candidates with a holistic understanding of the manufacturing value chain, quality control measures and regulatory framework conditions. Through a wide range of soft‑skill courses, candidates will be optimally prepared for their future professional career regarding personal skills.
('skai)-lab is embedded into the large international network of DLR, BAM and BTU, which enables PhD students to undertake (inter‑)national research stays in industry, science and the public sector.
The remuneration of the PhD candidates corresponds to the common salary groups at BTU (TV‑L E13), DLR (TVöD E13) and BAM (TVöD E13). Working languages are German and English.
Applicants are expected to have an above‑average Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (materials science/physics/chemistry/engineering), a high level of interest in aviation, manufacturing and quality control topics, a very good command of English, the ability to work in a team and enthusiasm for the interdisciplinary work of ('skai)-lab.
