Advocate: Product Engineer, Tech Ops

Stellenbeschreibung:

Headquarters: San Francisco, CA / New York City

Advocate is transforming how Americans access government benefits. Our mission is to drive the time between need and relief down to zero. We combine AI‑powered technology with human care to provide an unparalleled experience for claimants and support government partners by reducing administrative burdens and enabling more efficient eligibility determinations.

At Advocate, the Tech Ops team is the connective tissue of the organization. We sit at the intersection of technology, marketing, and operations, ensuring these functions remain perfectly synchronized as we scale. We are not an IT support desk; we are front-line builders, working alongside internal users who serve our claimants.

Responsibilities

  • Short‑Term Agility: Keep lights on, patch production issues, and ensure continuous service so claimants experience no friction.
  • Long‑Term Scalability: Observe patterns, identify recurring operational challenges, and build scalable solutions that eliminate those hurdles.
  • The End‑to‑End Journey Workbench: Build a centralized internal workbench to visualize the entire claimant journey—from initial ad click to final case closure—tracking every step and touchpoint.
  • Building the External Claimant Portal: Create a portal where users view real‑time case status, push medical evidence from providers, and receive critical updates.
  • Engineering the Growth Engine: Build data‑warehouse pipelines that trigger outbound communications, integrate with PPC platforms for conversion tracking, and ensure bulletproof attribution models.
  • AI‑Driven Developer Velocity: Automate change‑request pipelines using LLMs to open pull requests, accelerating the distance from feedback to production fixes.
  • Front‑Line Firefighting & System Resilience: Field ad‑hoc requests and production incidents, balancing short‑term viability with long‑term stability.
  • Next‑Gen Platform Migration: Lead the migration and integration of the current tech stack onto new platform architecture, ensuring zero downtime.
  • Operational Digitization & Automation: Digitize physical mail processing, automate complex government forms, and establish comprehensive observability across all systems.

Qualifications

  • Extreme Ownership: Proactive drivers who own projects from inception to production success, managing OPEX, user adoption, and long‑term stability.
  • User‑Obsessed Iteration: Build relationships with users, gather feedback, and treat user insights as the primary north star.
  • Observability over Guesswork: Integrate deep observability into every system, ensuring data drives road‑mapping decisions.
  • Massive Imperfect Action: Prioritize shipping MVPs, iterate quickly, and avoid over‑engineering unrequested perfection.
  • Optimistic Problem Solvers: Persist through challenges, collaborate, iterate, and ship solutions in a high‑availability environment.
  • The “Camera On” Mindset: Embrace constant, transparent communication and thrive in a collaborative team setting.
  • Technical Excellence in the Age of AI: Provide foundational CS principles and architectural oversight beyond AI assistance.
  • The Support‑Build Balance: Maintain a healthy codebase, refactor systems for reliability, and balance new builds with ongoing support.
  • Trust and Feedback over Process: Autonomy and direct, constructive feedback; push forward based on intuition and data rather than permissions.

Tech Stack

  • Full‑stack (TypeScript): TypeScript, React, Next.js, Nx, Node.js, GraphQL.
  • Data: PostgreSQL, TypeORM, Redis.
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Docker.
  • Integrations: Salesforce, Zendesk.
  • Marketing: Customer.io or Iterable, Webflow, paid ads (Google, Meta, Microsoft), conversion tracking.
  • AI: LLM integration in production – prompting, tool use, RAG/agents, evaluation and safety.
  • Quality & Observability: Sentry, PostHog, Playwright.
  • Data/Analytics: Python, Databricks.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive Health & Wellness: Full suite of medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your family, $0 premium options, and FSA/HSA accounts.
  • Time to Recharge: 15 days of accrued PTO, 11 paid federal holidays, and dedicated sick leave.
  • Family‑First Support: 8 weeks paid parental leave for all parents, plus an additional 2‑week flex transition period.
  • Professional Growth: $500 annual learning stipend and 2 dedicated Growth Days per year.
  • Flexible Remote Culture: Remote work from wherever you are most productive; Slack, Gather, and up to six in‑person offsites per year.
  • Compensation & Ownership: Market‑competitive salary with performance‑based raises and equity grants.
