Automation Engineer
Location: Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
At Gigs we build the operating system for mobile services—a platform that lets tech companies embed global connectivity into their products effortlessly. From fintechs launching mobile services to HR platforms offering work phone plans, we automate provisioning and remove telecom complexity. Our team of around 100 people across the US and Europe is backed by nearly $100 million in funding from Ribbit Capital, Google, and Y Combinator. As one of the fastest-growing tech companies, we tackle deep technical and regulatory challenges to make connectivity truly seamless.
We’re looking for an Automation Engineer who owns the automations layer that lets us work with real‑world messiness of telecom integrations. Your mission is to close the gap – building and maintaining scripts, headless browser flows, and internal agents that turn manual dashboard tasks into reliable, invisible infrastructure.
The Role
- Build and maintain automations that interact with telecom dashboards and other external tools via browser scripting (Playwright, Puppeteer, etc.)
- Automate tasks like logins, 2FA handling, navigation flows, and triggering partner‑side actions
- Parse structured and unstructured data from partner dashboards when APIs fall short
- Own the reliability layer: retries, monitoring, alerting, fallback flows, and error tracking
- Create scheduling infrastructure for recurring tasks (cron jobs, queues, distributed polling)
- Collaborate with operations, product, and engineering teams to spec out missing workflows
- Document and evolve our internal “automation framework” and seed the best automation practices at Gigs
- Stay scrappy: debug edge cases, adapt to broken UIs, and ship fast iterations that work in production
- Utilize the latest AI tools: be the evangelist of AI automations and AI agents use at Gigs.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience building internal tools, scrapers, bots, or automation pipelines
- Experience with browser automation tools like Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium
- Comfortable managing sessions, handling 2FA, parsing DOMs, and scripting human‑like flows
- Shipped backend services that run on schedules, log intelligently, and self‑heal
- Fluent in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, and comfortable building CLI tools or lightweight APIs
- Pragmatic: ship fast, optimize for real‑world reliability, and know when to hack vs. engineer
- Self‑directed, enjoy owning problems, and are motivated by shipping high‑leverage work that just works
Bonus Points If
- Reverse‑engineered undocumented APIs or browser network traffic to fill integration gaps
- Built lightweight infrastructure to manage automations at scale
- Worked with AI agents, prompt chains, or LLMs to automate human‑like workflows
- Experience in insurance, telecom, fintech, or other environments where systems are fragmented and legacy‑bound
- Built internal tooling that replaced manual ops workflows and scaled with the team
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and stock options
- Stipends for home office or work setup
- Budget for learning and development to fuel your career
- Free phone and international data plan
We’re remote‑friendly by design, but we also offer hubs for those who need the energy and focus that only in‑person collaboration can bring. Our hubs in San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, and Berlin are vibrant spots where Gigsters connect, collaborate, and create together.
