Check out Liquid Phase Separations Division in Waldbronn, Germany, is looking for a Bachelor or Master Student (m/f/d) to write the final thesis in the field of mechanical engineering for HPLC instruments. The thesis work is expected to span a period of six months.
HPLC devices operate with liquid volumes in the microliter range under pressures up to 1300 bar. Key components in these pumps are pressure-tight, chemically inert connections that ideally form dead-volume-free interfaces between the various components. Your task includes the development of an innovative, tailored sealing system and involves the production of a prototype and its verification in a high-pressure experiment.
Approach:

Familiarization with the topic of chromatography and getting to know the laboratory equipment
Reviewing existing findings and the current state of the art
Conducting test series with analytical pumps to check and evaluate the sealing performance of the developed seals

Qualifications

You are currently enrolled in a study program in engineering in Germany, such as Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
Basic knowledge in mechatronics and materials science is required
You have received approval to carry out your thesis, and supervision by the university is ensured.
Experience with 3D printers or CNC machines programmed using G-code is an advantage
Analytical skills and an interest in experimental work
Fluent German or English
