The Payment team is responsible for the complete payment lifecycle, from customers first placing their orders within the Checkout to handling the refund of a returned item weeks later. Between these two points, the team interacts with a multitude of internal and external players, spanning from internal business to other tech teams and multiple payment providers in a variety of countries. The applications the Payment team maintains span from high traffic & fault tolerance API hubs to security-conscious and reliable backend processing engines.

We are currently looking for a
skilled and passionate Backend Engineer (m/w/d)
to join our growing team in Hamburg or Berlin.

In this role, you will design, build, and scale the backend systems that power our payment infrastructure – from transaction processing and fraud prevention to integration with payment service providers. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our systems are secure, resilient, and deliver an exceptional payment experience for millions of users.

As part of an agile, high-performing engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to shape SCAYLE Payments' technical landscape, drive architectural decisions, and continuously improve our development practices.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain robust PHP applications within the payment lifecycle.
• Implement and advocate for Test-Driven Development (TDD), Pair Programming, Mob Programming, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Integration.
• Writing secure, scalable and maintainable code.
• Ensure all code meets high standards of quality and adheres to best practices, contributing to a sustainable development pace.

Who you are

• Minimum of 3-4 years experience with PHP. We use PHP 8.3
• Practical experience developing REST APIs
• Experience working with PostgreSQL, Redis, or equivalent data storages.
• Knowledge or experience working with messaging systems like SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ etc.
• Strong experience with git
• Self-motivated and responsible working
• Passionate and eager to learn
• Experience/basic understanding of kubernetes equivalent technology
• Good to have experience with on-call/emergency management
