RE Technologies GmbH

Blade Design Structural Specialist

Stellenbeschreibung:

RE Technologies GmbH is a leading OEM specializing in the design and manufacture of wind turbines and associated components. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and performance, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge renewable energy solutions. Our Blades Engineering department drives the aerodynamic and structural design and development of next-generation wind turbine blades, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, efficiency, and safety in the global market.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Blade Design Structural Specialist to join our Blades Engineering department in Hamburg, Germany. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in composite structural design and wind turbine blade development, with a proven track record in the industry. This position plays a key role in leading design concepts, validating structural performance, and guiding the next generation of blade innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design of wind turbine blades, ensuring compliance with international standards (IEC, DNV, GL, etc.).
  • Develop and validate detailed composite structural models for blades using advanced analytical and numerical (FEA) tools.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamic, materials, and manufacturing teams to optimize blade performance, manufacturability, weight, and reliability.
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews, certification processes, and customer-facing discussions.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers in structural design principles and best practices.
  • Interface with suppliers and certification bodies to ensure alignment on quality and compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement in blade design methodology, design-for-manufacture, and cost optimization.
  • Investigate field issues and provide structural solutions for blade repair and retrofits.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in composite design with at least 5 years dedicated to wind turbine blade design.
  • Strong knowledge of composite materials, in particular of Glass Fiber Composites (GFRP) and Carbon Fiber Composites (CFRP), including their structural mechanics, fatigue life and durability, and fracture behavior
  • Fundamental understanding of epoxy resin systems and related composite properties
  • Experience with sandwich composites (balsa, PET, PVC, or PMI foams) and core–skin bonding techniques for lightweight yet strong blade construction.
  • Proven expertise with finite element analysis (ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools) for composite structures.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes such as infusion, prepreg, pultrusion, and quality control for large composite structures.
  • Familiarity with certification standards (IEC 61400, DNVGL, GL guidelines).
  • Track record of working with multi-disciplinary teams (aerodynamics, manufacturing, controls, etc.).
  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (preferred).
