Business Development Manager (Ship Management & Commercial Shipping)

Our client is expanding its footprint in the global maritime sector and seeks an experienced Business Development Manager with strong knowledge, network, and reputation in ship management and commercial shipping.

The successful candidate will lead the company’s growth in crew, technical and commercial management contracts, develop client relationships with shipowners and investors, and represent the company across international markets.

This role is structured with a clear path to advance into a Director-level position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure new ship management contracts (crew, technical, commercial, or full scope).
  • Develop long‑term partnerships with shipowners, operators, charterers, and brokers and maintain a solid business pipeline aligned with company growth targets.
  • Promote the company’s Swiss commercial and operational capabilities to global clients.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, budgets, and service agreements.
  • Monitor market trends and competitors within the ship management.
  • Represent the company at international shipping events, conferences, and client meetings.
  • Develop business processes, communication and client support system.
  • Onboarding of new counterparties and maintain strong customer relationship.
  • Coordinate closely with the operations and technical departments to ensure client satisfaction and service excellence.

Candidate Profile

  • 5 to 10 years of proven experience in ship management, commercial operations, or business development in the maritime industry.
  • Established network and strong reputation among shipowners, charterers, and maritime service providers.
  • Deep understanding of ship management services and their market positioning.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent communication in English (additional European languages are an advantage).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Maritime Business, Shipping Management, or related discipline is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset — proactive, goal‑oriented, and capable of independent business development.
