Construction Manager – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

To support our growth in the European market, we are looking for a passionate and experienced BESS Construction Manager to join our dynamic team in Berlin.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and results-driven BESS Construction Manager to oversee the on-site execution, installation, and commissioning of our utility-scale Battery Energy Storage projects. You will be the primary person responsible for managing site activities, ensuring that all construction works are completed safely, to the highest quality standards, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires active site presence and close coordination with subcontractors and equipment suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Tender Preparation: Using Construction Site experience to prepare tender quotation, organize supply chain and communicate with local partners.
• Site Leadership: Lead and manage all daily on-site construction activities for utility-scale BESS projects from site mobilization to mechanical and electrical completion.
• Subcontractor Management: Supervise EPC contractors, civil works teams, electrical installers, and specialized equipment suppliers (batteries, inverters, transformers) on-site.
• Schedule & Progress Tracking: Monitor construction progress against the project schedule; identify bottlenecks early and implement corrective actions to prevent delays.
• Quality & Compliance: Ensure all construction works comply with approved engineering designs, local German building codes, and international industry standards.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Enforce strict site safety protocols and zero-harm policies, ensuring full compliance with German health and safety regulations (SiGeKo coordination).
• Grid Connection Support: Coordinate on-site activities required for medium and high-voltage grid connections in collaboration with the Grid Operator (DSO/TSO).
• Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular site progress reports to the Project Manager and maintain all necessary site logs, quality checklists, and as-built documentation.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (or equivalent extensive site experience).
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of on-site construction management experience in the renewable energy sector or massive infrastructure projects, with a proven track record in utility-scale BESS, large-scale solar (PV), or high-voltage substation projects.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of civil works, high/medium voltage electrical systems, and the physical installation requirements of large-scale battery containers.
• Language Skills: Fluency in English and German is required (written and spoken) to effectively communicate with local subcontractors, authorities, and international teams.
• Mobility: Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across Germany and potentially other European countries.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership and conflict-resolution skills, a hands-on mentality, and the ability to maintain absolute authority on active, large-scale construction sites.
