Creative Media Division Berlin Office

The Communications Department at Human Rights Watch shapes the organization's public voice and influence, ensuring our research and advocacy inform global debates, reach key decision-makers, and drive accountability for human rights abuses wherever they occur. The Creative Media Division of the Communications Department is seeking a Production Coordinator to support the creation of creative media assets and provide general assistance to the Creative Media team.

This is a full‑time position based in the Berlin office. The successful candidate must be based within commuting distance of the Berlin office and will be expected to work from the office two (2)–three (3) days per week or on an as‑needed basis. The Production Coordinator reports to the Director of the Creative Media Division.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide production support to the Creative Media Division, which includes project management, organizing shoots, licensing photos, drafting security memos, call sheets and freelancer contracts;
  2. Monitor and produce regular reports on performance of HRW videos and content, including tracking audience engagement and impact;
  3. Contribute to the project workflow and content distribution of the Creative Media Division;
  4. Contribute to strategizing the growth, production, and distribution of HRW Creative Media public content to media outlets;
  5. Project manage Creative Media’s relationship with vendors, including music and image license;
  6. Serve as the internal liaison assisting in researcher training and supporting relevant program staff understand how to collaborate with Creative Media;
  7. Liaising with other departments in HRW to collaborate on Creative Media projects;
  8. Assist with recruiting and coordinating interns;
  9. Assisting the Creative Media team with tasks as needed, including video editing, subtitling, research, and transcribing; and
  10. Carry out other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s level degree, or equivalent working experience, preferably in journalism, video production, communications or a related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge

  1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills are required.
  2. Creativity, initiative, follow‑through, ability to work independently, as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations, is required.
  3. Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.
  4. The ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities while working effectively toward deadlines is required.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within Human Rights Watch as well as with external partners are required.
  6. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
  7. Proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications is required.
  8. Proficiency using Asana is desired.
  9. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required; proficiency in another language is highly preferred.
  10. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of Human Rights Watch are highly desirable.

Other: Applicants must possess valid German work authorization; HRW is unable to provide work authorization sponsorship for this role.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers competitive compensation and employer‑paid benefits. The salary range for this position is EUR 45,000 – 46,000.
