Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) delivers best‑practice systems and resolves problems on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems, etc.) within a specific location. The role requires a highly driven, self‑managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to complex technical problems. This position involves frequent site interventions, critical switching activities, troubleshooting, and fixing infrastructure issues. It suits someone who enjoys hands‑on work on Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) infrastructure such as diesel generators, switchgear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, fire detection systems and building automation systems. The EOT reports to the Data Center Engineering Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

• Set and maintain the highest standards for safety and promote a world‑class safety culture in all operational procedures.
• Drive continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while meeting agreed metrics.
• Enable the operations organization to deliver 100% uptime on all customer‑supporting infrastructure.
• Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver operational excellence for all AWS customers.
• Ensure preventive maintenance of site‑critical facility infrastructure is planned and executed to the highest standards according to AWS procedures.
• Monitor and supervise facility operations via BMS, PMS, walkthroughs, etc.
• Participate in the successful delivery of build‑out and retrofit of Data Center infrastructure.
• React and respond appropriately to any potential customer‑impacting event on electrical or mechanical infrastructure.
• Review incident reports, document periodic trend summaries, and provide updates and recommended actions to management.
• Draft, update, and maintain method statements, SOPs, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and all technical documentation pertaining to DCEO.

Physical Requirements

• Work on a 24x7 schedule (where applicable).
• Work at heights and from ladders.
• Perform physical tasks during the shift.
• Work in a noisy environment with ear protection.

Basic Qualifications

• High school or equivalent diploma.
• Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.
• Nationality of an EU member state.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data center engineering.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls).
• Proficiency in German – B2 level.
