About the project

The Chair of Decision Sciences and Systems at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), led by Prof. Martin Bichler, is seeking outstanding candidates to join the newly established research team for the ERC Advanced Grant project “Equilibrium Learning, Uncertainty, and Dynamics.”

ELUD will design new algorithms for computing equilibria and investigate when learning agents converge to efficient equilibria in market interactions automated by artificial learning agents (e.g., pricing agents in electronic retail or bidding agents in display-advertising auctions).

Positions Available

• Doctoral Researchers (Ph.D Candidates)
• Postdoctoral Researchers

Responsibilities

• Conduct collaborative research within the team and with external partners.
• Contribute to teaching activities and engage in the broader academic life of the group.

Employment Conditions

• Full-time positions (100%), initially offered for two years with possible extension depending on performance and project needs.
• Start date: Flexible, from January 2026 onward.
• Salary: Based on TV-L E13 (German public sector pay scale), commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Funding for travel to international conferences and workshops is available.

Qualifications

• Doctoral Candidates: Master’s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics.
• Postdoctoral Researchers: Ph.D. in Computer Science or Mathematics, ideally with background in Optimization, Game Theory, or Machine Learning.

Applicants Must Demonstrate

• Excellent academic record, including top grades and, where applicable, peer-reviewed publications.
• Strong motivation, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Solid English communication skills (spoken and written). Proficiency in German is not required.
