Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

Your mission at Mercanis At Mercanis, we are building the Agentic AI Procurement Suite that powers the procurement of tomorrow, digital, transparent, and intelligent. We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead one of our cross-functional product teams. You will guide a talented group of engineers working with modern technologies such as Svelte, TypeScript, NestJS, and AWS, while remaining actively involved in coding and technical decision-making. This role blends technical leadership and hands-on development. Around 20% of your time will be spent coding and contributing directly to our product, while the rest will focus on mentoring your team, ensuring high delivery quality, and collaborating with Product and Design to build scalable, user-focused solutions. This role is based in Berlin, Germany. Candidates must already reside in Berlin with a valid work permit. At this time, we cannot provide relocation or visa sponsorship Your Responsibilities On This Role Lead and manage engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions across multiple product verticals. Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Customer Success to translate business needs into impactful technical outcomes. Mentor and develop engineers , fostering growth through coaching, feedback, and career development support. Contribute hands-on when needed , dedicating a portion of your time to technical problem-solving and supporting team execution. Drive technical excellence by promoting best practices in software development, cloud infrastructure, and modern tooling. Champion agile workflows and team culture , ensuring alignment, transparency, and continuous improvement across engineering. Role Requirements Strong professional experience in software engineering, ideally across frontend and backend technologies (Svelte, TypeScript, Node.js, or similar) At least 2 years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Team Lead, with a track record of mentoring and growing engineers Proven ability to design and deliver scalable, cloud-based systems (experience with AWS is a plus) A hands-on mindset and readiness to contribute to the codebase when needed (about 20% of your time) Excellent problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic and results-oriented approach Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working cross-functionally with Product and Design A continuous learning attitude and the flexibility to adapt in a fast-moving startup environment Tools of the trade Frontend: Svelte, Tailwind, Backend: NestJS , TypeScript Infrastructure: AWS Databases: PostgreSQL & DynamoDB Why to join us here at Mercanis?
