System Design Responsible (d/f/m) for Situational Awareness Systems

Your Role

As System Design Responsible, you will be end-to-end responsible to drive the transversal development of advanced Situational Awareness capabilities that will enable our customers to perform their missions in most challenging environments.

Our Team

You will join a team of 65+ system engineers in our transnational "Situational Awareness and Mission Management" department in charge of the implementation of Situation Awareness systems on all Airbus Helicopters (e)VTOL platforms. These systems integrate a variety of technologies for the crew's perception of the external environment to support their understanding of terrain and obstacles, air traffic and weather situation. Typical systems include obstacle warning systems, camera and electro-optical systems, transponder systems, radar systems, advanced display means.

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours (min. 30hrs/week) and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks & responsibilities

In this position you will be end-to-end responsible for the development, integration, qualification and certification of Situational Awareness Systems. Your activities will follow the typical V-cycle development process and may include:

  • Elaboration of operational concepts and use cases for Situational Awareness Systems
  • Requirement engineering, system specification and design
  • Integration of Situational Awareness systems (mechanical, electrical, functional)
  • Definition of integration, verification and validation strategy
  • Support to rig, ground and flight testing of the resp. system
  • Ensure system qualification and certification at H/C level
  • Supplier management (pro-active control and monitor) to secure technical requirements of development contracts
  • Ensure project execution in accordance with overall H/C level planning
  • Stakeholder management with relevant stakeholders throughout the organization e.g. project and program management, procurement, sales etc.
  • Participate in offer management and contributing to product sourcing policy
  • Application of modern ways of working and agile development methodology where applicable
  • Benchmark state-of-the-art situational awareness systems and technologies (e.g. in the field of augmented reality, laser technology, image processing)
  • Active contribution to definition of implementation roadmap and product strategy for Situational Awareness systems
  • Supporting knowledge exchange within Airbus (all divisions)

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Academic studies in the field of Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • Comprehensive understanding Systems Engineering methodologies and experience in application
  • Experience in system design, development, engineering and/or integration of complex avionics systems
  • Knowledge in systems engineering, requirements engineering and integration in the field of avionics
  • A previous experience with agile methodology (Scrum, SAFe) would be beneficial
  • Experience in Supplier Management
  • Team Spirit, good communication skills and experience in stakeholder management
  • Language skills: English business fluent / negotiation level, knowledge of German, French or Spanish would be an advantage
