The Dahlem Center for Complex Quantum Systems (DCCQS) at Freie Universitaet Berlin invites applications for a research assistant position (praedoc) (m/f/d) in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics with a focus on spin transport and spintronics. This position is funded by the Collaborative Research Center / Transregio 227 “Ultrafast Spin Dynamics”, which aims to establish a fundamental understanding of ultrafast spin dynamics and lay the groundwork for spin‑based information technology operating at THz clock rates. The DFG‑funded CRC/TRR 227 of Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) and Martin‑Luther‑Universität Halle‑Wittenberg (MLU), along with other participating institutions, receive funding for their third funding period 2026–2029.
The role involves doing research in theoretical physics, focusing on the time‑dependent dynamics of the transport of spin and orbital angular momentum. The project is part of subproject B03, led by Prof. Dr. Piet Brouwer. An opportunity exists to earn a doctorate within the framework of this externally funded research project. The position is initially limited until the end of the project, 31 December 2029.
Applicants should hold a M.Sc. degree in theoretical physics and must meet the requirements for admission to the doctoral program of the Department of Physics at Freie Universität Berlin.
Excellent knowledge of theoretical solid‑state physics.
Research assistant (praedoc) (m/f/d) – 75 % part‑time, limited to 30 June 2029. Salary grade: Entgeltgruppe 13 TV‑L FU. Reference code: CRC‑PhD2026.
