Freelance Sub-Editor, Montel News

Montel is a fully independent provider of news and analysis, offering real‑time, accurate, investigative and balanced coverage of European power and related commodities.

We have a challenging opportunity for a full‑time freelance sub‑editor to work with one of Europe’s leading energy newswires. Candidates based in continental Europe or on a remote/hybrid basis in the UK/Ireland are especially welcome.

Responsibilities

Sub‑edit stories quickly and accurately for publication on the newswire following our style guide.
Create engaging headlines and rework non‑native English copy to be clear and concise.
Prioritise market‑moving stories to get the most newsworthy items out within minutes.
Ensure accurate use of figures, supporting daily market reports on key commodity price movements.
Collaborate with the Senior Sub‑Editor and work independently as required.
Participate in some foreign travel for team events.

Qualifications

Native‑English speaking journalist with a minimum of five years sub‑editing experience at a newswire or newspaper.
Strong knowledge of the energy sector and understanding of financial markets.
Experience working in a busy newsroom environment.
Readiness to work 37.5 hours per week, including some early mornings.
Excellent spelling, grammar, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
