Searching for new stars in the dark universe
In close collaboration with DLR GfR’s software developers, we are looking for a GNSS engineer that leads the technical evolution of NAVCAST, coordinating all development and validation activities.
This includes testing the new cloud-hosted processing environment, ensuring coherence across Phase, Code, Orbit, and Clock corrections, and adapting the service to meet UAV user performance requirements.
The position will include tasks such as
- Implement a Navcast processing environment hosted by a cloud infrastructure service provider contracted by DLR GfR (similar to the existing Navcast environment running on the Open Telekom Cloud)
- Make the existing Navcast service compliant to user performance requirements flown down by U-space customers
- Develop a PPP-AR/RTK algorithm and SSR/OSR/CSSR converter tools
- Support the implementation of INTEGRITY functionalities for Navcast (Protection Level computation) and a CSSR-based broadcast mechanism for all corrections
- Support the development of a User Terminal (algorithm + receiver) that integrates the outputs from point 3 and 4 into a mobile user device
- Support the End-to-End validation of the new service by generating test procedures, executing them and documenting the outcomes
- Contributions to other tasks as specified by project management.
Key Qualifications
- A strong background in GNSS Navigation and familiarity with the topic of Navigation INTEGRITY
- Experience with Software development methodologies
- Experience with Satellite Navigation technology and applications
- A profound knowledge of orbit determination and improvement, time transfer and precise point positioning (PPP/PPPAR/ PPP-RTK)
- The ability/willingness to become an expert for the core processing engines for Real-Time GNSS orbit (BERNESE) and clock determination (RETICLE), incl. Code and Phase Bias Estimations.
- Significant experience with Linux environments (hardware and software installations, shell scripting, network design, software debugging)
- Experience with programming languages like Fortran, Perl, Python or C/C++.
- Real-time software services and networking.
- Experience with the NAVCAST service would be considered a strong asset.
