Job Role: Grid Connection Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Working Pattern: 1 Day On‑Site / Remote Flexibility (Occasional full on‑site weeks depending on grid works)

Hourly rate: Negotiable

Language: German C1

I am working with a leading developer delivering two BESS projects currently under construction totalling 200 MW, with a further 500 MW BESS project entering development in Q3. They are actively hiring for a Freelance Grid Connection Engineer who will ensure full compliance with German grid standards and interface directly with the TSO.

To be considered, you MUST have prior experience working with 50Hertz.

• Strong communicator in German (C1 required) and English.
• Proven experience delivering grid connection activities for BESS or large‑scale renewable energy projects in the German market.
• Strong understanding of German grid codes, TSO compliance, operational requirements, and interconnection processes.
• Familiarity with MV/HV systems, battery systems, transformers, switchgear, and grid‑compliant protection.
• Ability to travel 1 day per week to site in Germany, with occasional full‑week attendance depending on project phase

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensuring all BESS grid activities comply with 50Hertz requirements and German regulations.
• Reviewing and validating all grid connection documentation and system studies.
• Supporting grid application submissions, permitting steps, and TSO communications.
• Reviewing SLDs, protection concepts, and all grid‑related engineering packages.
• Working with EPC and OEM partners to ensure technical compliance and readiness.
