We are looking for a System Engineer to work at our client’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany.
About the client and location
The European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is a political organisation comprising of 30 European member states. EUMETSAT operates satellites to monitor weather, climate, and the changing environment. They are responsible for helping to isolate potentially dangerous weather conditions that could affect air travel, farming and other key service industries.
Tasks and activities
- Contributing to requirements definition and management, ensuring the definition, traceability, and maintenance of technical requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Design and development planning, including the preparation and maintenance of design, implementation, and integration plans.
- Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V) management, including support to the planning, execution, and documentation of verification and validation activities, including test cases and procedures.
- Configuration management, including the coordination of configuration baselines across systems.
- Project management, providing engineering support across the full project delivery lifecycle, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, control, and closure, contributing to projects delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality and scope.
- Providing engineering support to the definition and maintenance of a portfolio of services delivered by a ground segment system functional group.
- Supporting the tailoring of declared services to the specific needs and context of individual customers or ground segments.
- Contributing to the development of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) software applications.
- Providing system engineering and project management support for the definition, development, declaration, and maintenance of EUMETSAT Multi‑Mission Element (MME) services, covering monitoring, IT and infrastructure, processing, and data access services.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- Proven experience in the field of system engineering.
- Demonstrated capability in requirements analysis and requirements generation.
- Architectural design experience.
- Strong background in the development, integration, verification, validation, operations, and maintenance of ground segment systems.
- Capability to prepare system requirements and system design documentation.
- Proven ability to perform system‑level analyses for complex satellite‑based systems.
- Strong proficiency in writing technical requirements, preferably in accordance with ECSS standards.
- Experience in the preparation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Ability to define, manage, and ensure traceability of requirements using tools such as DOORS.
- Demonstrated ability in the Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V) of complex systems.
- Strong proficiency in test coordination, execution, and verification activities.
- Knowledge of satellite ground segment system engineering, including system and software life cycles, data distribution and dissemination, ground segment monitoring, and archive systems.
- Excellent knowledge of computer and network systems, IT security, and AI/ML technologies, including models and supporting software frameworks.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
