Head of BESS – Remote (Anywhere in Germany)

I’m partnering with a well‑established German IPP – highly respected in the PV sector and now investing heavily in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) – to appoint a Head of BESS . This is a pivotal strategic role for an experienced energy storage leader who wants to build and scale a major business unit from the ground up.

The Opportunity

You’ll take full ownership of the company’s BESS strategy and portfolio, driving everything from market positioning and technology selection through to project delivery and operational performance. This is an exceptional chance to step into a visible leadership role with strong board‑level support and the financial stability of a proven renewables player.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, own, and implement the BESS growth strategy across Germany and Europe.
• Lead development of standalone and hybrid PV+BESS projects from origination to commissioning.
• Select and negotiate with integrators, EPC partners, technology providers, and grid stakeholders.
• Oversee investment cases, commercial structures, and all financial modelling related to BESS assets.
• Build and lead a dedicated BESS team—including engineering, project management, and operations.
• Ensure optimal operation, safety, and performance of storage assets in the long term.
• Act as the senior internal and external ambassador for the BESS business line.

Candidate Profile

• 7+ years’ experience in energy storage, renewables, or grid solutions, ideally with leadership exposure.
• Strong technical and commercial understanding of BESS, EMS/PCS, battery technologies, regulatory topics, and German/EU market mechanisms.
• Proven track record overseeing BESS (or large renewable) projects through the full lifecycle.
• Confident stakeholder manager with the ability to operate strategically while staying hands‑on.
• Fluent German and English.
