Head of Engineering (AI and Data)

We are recruiting for an Head of Engineering (Data and AI) to join a fast-growing healthtech / fintech startup helping to shape the future of AI in healthcare! This is one of Berlin's most promising and well funded scale ups in the space.

You’ll manage, mentor, and grow multiple teams of AI, Data and Software Engineers, while shaping the technical and product roadmap for scalable AI solutions for the business. This is a strategic leadership role, working directly with C-level and owning end to end AI strategy.

You'll take full ownership of their core Data Platform, Data Integration and Infrastructure teams. You will be tasked with working with a talented team of engineers to redesign and rebuild their data platform to fully support AI product development. You'll need to lead the way in leveraging the latest in LLM and Agentic AI data platform tooling and developments. This rebuild will enable the business to fulfil its product roadmap ambitions which rely hugely on the Agentic AI space.

What you’ll do :

• Lead, inspire, and grow multiple teams of Data, AI & software engineers
• You’ll manage managers and highly senior staff engineers directly
• Drive innovation within the business through increasing Data Platform and AI adoption and drive AI product development capabilities your data and agentic tooling
• Define roadmap priorities in collaboration with product and coordinate this across teams
• Drive Data and AI technical and data strategy company-wide, with a focus on using AI to build customer facing products.
• Lead hiring initiatives to build the best AI product development organisation in Berlin
• Stay at the frontier of the latest research to identify opportunities for the business to evolve and utilise the latest in the space

What you bring :

• 2+ years of experience in a Head of, Director or VP level role within AI or Data Science leadership with a deep understanding of cloud based Data Platforms
• An affinity for the LLM / GenAI and Agentic worlds with experience in launching products based on these technologies
• Product Mindset - experience applying AI and the latest research to solve real world problems
• The drive, ambition and work rate to succeed in a very fast paced, rapidly scaling startup setting
• Hands‑on experience building and launching Data and AI products
• Strong ML fundamentals and data / software engineering expertise
• Proven ability to mentor and grow high‑performing teams, technical leads and managers
• Excellent communication skills; English required, German a plus
