Head of Indirect Tax (m / f / d)

For our headquarter in Hamburg, we are looking for a dedicated and strategic Head of Indirect Tax (m / f / d) to lead our Service Unit in all matters related to indirect taxation.

Your Tasks :

• As Head of Indirect Tax, you will report directly to the Finance Director Europe, taking ownership of all indirect tax matters for HELM AG and its 34 VAT-registered legal entities across Europe.
• In this pivotal role, you will oversee the full spectrum of indirect tax activities: Compliance, advisory, audits, process optimization and business support - by combining deep VAT expertise with strong leadership to foster collaboration across teams and functions.
• You will play a key role in shaping and executing our VAT compliance strategy, including the development of a VAT dashboard and initiatives to streamline reporting, reduce risk, and optimize VAT structures across the organization.
• Leading a skilled team, you will implement a clear and inspiring leadership strategy—setting priorities, supporting professional growth, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.
• You will act as the primary interface between the tax department and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the Group tax strategy and maintaining close coordination with local finance managers to uphold consistent standards across Europe.
• Additionally, you will drive the optimization and development of our SAP and Meridian systems, ensuring they meet the evolving requirements of VAT compliance across all European registrations.

Your profile :

• You possess of at least 5 years of professional experience in a senior position in tax in an international environment, where you have been able to build extensive knowledge in the area of indirect taxation.
• You have proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and developing teams within the finance department, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• You have a strong ability to analyze complex financial and indirect tax related data and provide actionable insights that drive decision-making. You also bring the ability to think strategically and anticipate challenges before they arise.
• Furthermore, you have initial experience working in diverse, international teams with a strong understanding of global indirect tax related issues and the ability to communicate effectively across cultures.
• You also enjoy working in an international environment and can communicate fluently in English and German; any additional language is a plus.
