Head of Legal Operations & Innovation

We are looking for an inspirational and at the same time pragmatic leader for the role of Head of Legal Operations & Innovation (LOI) to shape, with the senior legal leadership team and the more than 440 team members around the globe, the way we will deliver Legal Services in the future. With our Legal Vision & Strategy 2030, we will expedite the review of commercial contracts through simpler contracts, better processes and with the support of available technology, enabling the business to turn opportunities into revenue in an accelerated way. We will use data to determine course of actions, like the risk profile of clauses, and to take in general better decisions. We will also be able to work more cost effective in the provision of legal advice, looking holistically at internal and external cost of legal advice on all aspects of our business and across all divisions/functions.

Your Key Tasks:

• Service Delivery Optimization & Transformation: Implement the Legal Vision & Strategy 2030 for transitioning to the new Target Operating Model (TOM) for Legal, collaborating with senior legal leaders to enhance how we work.
• Technology & Digitalization: Implement the roadmap for the digital transformation of Legal, focusing on technology and AI integration to expedite contract reviews and thereby support DHL Group Strategy 2030.
• Financial Management & Controls: Oversee financial management of legal resources, ensuring budget adherence and implementing strategies for cost reduction and oversight of external legal spend.
• Resource Planning: Establish a strategic framework for resource allocation, ensuring optimal alignment of personnel with departmental needs.
• Litigation Overview & Analytics: Lead improvements in litigation reporting processes, ensuring clear responsibilities and effective use of global IT tools for litigation management.
• Knowledge Management: Develop and enhance the Legal Academy curriculum in line with the Legal Vision & Strategy 2030, promoting participation and evaluating its effectiveness in skill development.
• Business Intelligence & Data Analytics: Strategize the use of data analytics to facilitate informed decision-making and enhance operational efficiency across the legal function.
• Project/Program Management: Drive strategic global projects for the Head of Legal Services, including initiatives related to employee engagement and corporate governance.
• Management of Legal Practice & Knowledge Groups: Manage cross-regional collaboration among practice and knowledge groups to support divisional business strategies and ensure effective reporting to the Regional Heads of Legal.

Required Education and Experience:

• Process, IT and Legal Operations Expertise: Proven knowledge and at least 20 working experience in process-driven international environments. Strong proven understanding of IT systems and implementation, ideally also proven 3 – 5 years’ experience in Legal Operations.
• Legal Expertise: Legal qualification is a bonus. Experience with contracting from a customer experience perspective, a view thereon and a strong interest in how legal advice can be delivered is a must.
• Strategic Leadership: Proven ability in project/program management, financial controls, strategic, and resource allocation, with a focus on technology and digitalization.
• Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional relationship-building abilities with top management and stakeholders, demonstrating respect, influence, and effective communication. Strong and proven leadership capabilities, to be effective with a small central and broader decentral LOI team and multiple stakeholders.
• Transformational Mindset: Self-motivated leader with a high sense of responsibility, capable of driving the transformation of Legal Services to support Group Strategy 2030.
• Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and execution capabilities, with the ability to maintain composure under pressure and foster collaboration across functions.
• Language Proficiency: Fluent in English; proficiency in German is preferred.
