HVAC TECH/ SSHO L3

Overview

HVAC Technician / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) L3 — Base Operations. This dual-role covers technical performance of HVAC systems and the implementation and enforcement of the on-site safety program.

Responsibilities

• HVAC Maintenance & Repair: Install, maintain, and repair various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Diagnose complex issues, perform necessary repairs, and ensure systems operate at peak efficiency.
• Safety Program Oversight: Implement and maintain the project’s Site-Specific Accident Prevention Plan. Conduct daily safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Safety Training: Lead site-wide safety orientations, toolbox talks, and other training sessions to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Compliance & Reporting: Serve as the primary point of contact for safety matters. Ensure site compliance with OSHA standards and all applicable safety regulations.
• Incident Management: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and submit reports to management.
• Tool & Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of HVAC work and safety activities, including training, inspections, and incident reports.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational program, technical school, or associate degree in HVAC or related field is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years as an HVAC Technician with proven diagnostics and repair capability. At least 3 years in a dedicated safety role.
• Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigerants, and tools. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction standards and EM 385-1-1 requirements.
• Leadership: Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Self-starter who can enforce safety rules while fostering collaboration.
• Certification: Valid driver’s license; EPA Section 608; OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry; proof of L3-level safety course completion.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces; work in varied conditions including extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, fumes.

Special Qualifications/Requirements

• Must be able to pass a federal, state, or local government background investigation as required.
