The Laboratory for Microelectronics at the Department for Microsystems Engineering of the University of Freiburg offers one position for a doctoral candidate within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Action – Doctoral Network "BRAINET".
The doctoral candidate (DC) will contribute to the development of next‑generation wireless communication hardware for distributed brain‑implant networks. The BRAINET project focuses on designing and fabricating CMOS‑based multiphysical communication ASICs that enable semantic information exchange between wireless implant units and external systems. Working at the interface of microelectronics, biophysics, and neural engineering, the DC must develop communication concepts and architectures, implement multi‑channel transmission schemes (magnetoelectric, NFC, ionic, optical), and participate in the full ASIC design–fabrication–test cycle.
Ideally, the DC holds an MSc in electrical engineering with a specialization in microelectronics and has a strong interest in signal processing and communication theory. Very good written and spoken English language skills (B2 level) are a must.
An attractive salary in accordance with the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Action regulations for doctoral candidates is offered. The monthly gross salary includes €4,058.12 per month Living Allowance (adjusted for the German correction factor), €710 per month Mobility Allowance and €660 per month Family Allowance (if applicable).
All compulsory national contributions (social security, pension, insurances, taxes, etc.) to be borne by the employer and employee shall be deducted from these amounts in line with Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Action rules. These deductions vary between countries and institutions.
