Job Summary

As a Tactical Vehicle Mechanic Lead (Armament) you will be responsible for supervising and performing maintenance, repair, and inspection of armament systems on tactical vehicles, including machine guns, grenade launchers, and mounted weapon systems, including M1 Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and Howitzers (e.g., M109 Paladin). This role ensures compliance with U.S. Army technical manuals, safety standards, and contract requirements while managing a team of mechanics and coordinating workflow to maintain mission readiness. This role ensures all weapon systems are fully operational, safe, and compliant with U.S. Army standards and technical manuals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee mechanics performing maintenance on armament systems and small arms.

  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on vehicle-mounted and artillery weapon systems (e.g., 120mm tank gun, 25mm chain gun, TOW missile launcher, .50 cal machine guns, and 155mm Howitzer systems).

  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to technical standards.

  • Provide training and mentorship on weapon systems and safety procedures.

  • Supervise troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of mounted weapons and small arms.

  • Ensure proper calibration and functionality of weapon systems.

  • Validate work orders and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.

  • Enforce compliance with Army regulations (TM, AR and safety protocols.

  • Conduct inspections and quality checks on completed work.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports in GCSS-Army.

  • Manage tools, parts, and equipment inventory for armament and small arms systems.

  • Coordinate with supply and logistics teams for timely procurement of parts.

  • Monitor and control labor hours and material usage.

  • Prepare operational reports and participate in planning meetings.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance processes.

  • Inspect and service fire control systems, recoil mechanisms, and stabilization systems.

  • Conduct bore sighting, calibration, and functional testing of weapon systems.

  • Follow applicable Technical Manuals (TMs) and Army maintenance standards.

  • Provide technical guidance to junior mechanics and operators.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • High School Diploma or GED (Technical training in armament systems preferred).

  • Minimum 5 years in armament maintenance and small arms maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Experience in the following MOSs: Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer (91A), Bradley Fighting Vehicle System Maintainer (91M) and Small Arms/Artillery Repairer (91F).

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing weapon systems on armored vehicles and artillery platforms.

  • Proficiency in Army technical manuals and maintenance procedures for armament systems.

  • Strong understanding of mounted weapon systems on tactical vehicles.

  • Leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • MOS-related technical certifications (91F – Small Arms/Artillery Repairer preferred).

  • GCSS-Army proficiency.

  • Ability to lift heavy components and work in field conditions.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

  • Must currently have or possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

  • Requires a valid passport with at least 12 months of validity and 6 blank pages.
