Lead Game Designer (F2P mobile games)

PowerUp Talent is partnering with a top-tier mobile game studio in Berlin to find an experienced Lead Game Designer to drive the vision, quality, and success of one of the world’s most popular F2P mobile casual games, enjoyed by hundreds of millions of players globally.

This is an opportunity to take creative ownership of a live hit title with a massive player base, lead a talented team of designers, and shape the evolution of a product loved by fans around the world.

This role is based in Berlin, with a hybrid set-up, requiring living in Germany and coming minimum of one day per week at the office.

Your Role

As Lead Game Designer, you’ll guide the design strategy, systems, and player experience for a leading idle title. You’ll manage a team of Game Designers and UI / UX Designers, ensuring creative excellence and alignment with the game’s vision. Working closely with Product and Data teams, you’ll use your strong analytical mindset to design engaging features, optimize the economy, and drive retention and monetization.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the game design vision, balancing creativity with data-driven insights.
• Lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
• Oversee new feature development, gameplay systems, and content creation.
• Manage in-game economy and balance to ensure engaging player progression.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Art teams.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance development of design team members.
• Stay ahead of mobile F2P and idle game trends, bringing fresh ideas to the table.

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of experience leading or mentoring game designers.
• Proven success in mobile free-to-play game design, ideally on live titles.
• Strong analytical skills and comfort with KPIs and balancing tools (e.g., Excel).
• Deep understanding of live ops, player motivation, and monetization design.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills.
• A genuine passion for idle and simulation games.
