Learning Consultant

MAJOR FUNCTION

The Learning Consultant is grant-funded position housed within the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Office of the Secretary and Office of Staff Development & Training. The Learning Consultant is responsible for preparing for and providing certification and in-service training for juvenile justice professionals.

MINIMUM TRAINING / EXPERIENCE

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional or technical experience in areas such as training, teaching, staff development, criminal justice, forensic laboratory or a combination of education and experience. Professional or technical experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING

• Knowledge of juvenile justice policy, procedures, practices and training curriculum.
• Skills in assessing training and professional development needs.
• Skills in consulting and providing technical assistance.
• Skills in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships.
• Ability to conduct literature research related to juvenile justice.
• Ability to develop lesson plans and deliver competency-based curriculum.
• Ability to provide classroom training.
• Ability to plan, organize / coordinate work assignments within set guidelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently with minimum guidance and be a self-starter.
• Ability to work effectively with a team.
• Ability to operate personal computers and audio visual aids.
• Ability to travel.
• Extensive knowledge in Protective Action Response Curriculum.
• Ability to plan schedule for self and other Learning Coordinators on a Regional and statewide basis (when directed by the Deputy Director).
