Our "Commercial Asset Optimisation Power & Commodity Solutions Legal" team at RWE Supply & Trading GmbH (RWEST) advises on all legal issues related to RWEST's power asset optimisation and supply business in Germany and Continental Europe. We are based in Essen, embedded in a highly international environment with an open, collaborative culture. Our work is rarely routine: we support our commercial colleagues on complex and challenging topics and play an active role in making the energy transition happen and keeping RWEST fit for the future.

Responsibilities

• Advise our sales business on all questions of German and European energy law (e.g. EnWG, EEG) as well as distribution law
• Counsel various stakeholders on German and continental European legal matters relating to the commercial electricity business, including relevant products and (system) services
• Actively draft, review and negotiate all kind of legal documentation and develop new contractual approaches and solutions that support the energy transition
• Provide proactive, solution‑oriented legal support to traders, sales and other support functions
• Contribute to our department internal initiative to further develop and implement ideas and concepts for standardisation, digitalisation and modern, effective ways of working

Qualifications

• Fully qualified German lawyer with above‑average exam results
• Strong interest in commercial topics and the ability to quickly understand complex business models and work closely with commercial and support functions
• Ability to find pragmatic, risk‑appropriate solutions to challenging questions and working with demanding internal clients
• Openness to new perspectives and enthusiasm for driving the digitalisation of legal work at RWEST; you may not be a digital native but you are keen to lean and try new tools
• A team player who feels comfortable in an open‑minded, relaxed yet dynamic environment, and who is also confident managing tasks independently
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Very good communication skills in German and English, both spoken and written

Advantageous, but not a must

• Several years of relevant professional experience in the energy sector
• Knowledge of the RWE Group and the business of RWEST
