German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a world‑leading, internationally oriented center for cutting‑edge research into diseases of the nervous system. This position is located in Bonn and is part of the central IT team responsible for the DZNE’s central network, server, and storage infrastructure across the research centre.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate, and continuously develop the central HPC and scientific computing systems at DZNE.
• Help design and implement NVIDIA GPU solutions for scientific calculation.
• Participate in planning and construction of BeeGFS clusters, Slurm workload manager, and InfiniBand switches.
• Operate the central data centre and site data centres.
• Rack and stack data centre servers and storage hardware.
• Lead medium‑ and long‑term projects and coordinate external providers.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with HPC systems, GPU platforms, and InfiniBand switches.
• Knowledge of Linux HPC environments, Slurm, parallel cluster filesystems, and HPC hardware.
• Willingness to work in a data centre – rack and stack servers, storage, switches, cabling, and labeling.
• Ability to monitor, manage, and plan power‑and‑cooling requirements for data‑centre scientific computing hardware.
• Experience with business‑continuity and disaster‑recovery strategies.
• High level of responsibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills.
