Mainframe Modernization Solution Architect

Join Rocket Software as a Mainframe Modernization Solution Architect, responsible for designing, architecting, and implementing solutions that support customers' digital transformation. You will solve complex technical issues, establish patterns and practices, and set modernization standards for mainframe legacy environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Help customers and systems integrators design scalable, high‑availability application solutions built on the Rocket Enterprise Portfolio / Enterprise Server.
• Act as a technical leader alongside customer business, development, and infrastructure teams.
• Create proof‑of‑concept technology analyses and pilots.
• Conduct customer presentations, internal presentations, and training sessions.
• Enable and align consulting partners with Rocket's mainstream modernization approach and methodology.
• Provide architectural guidance and recommendations to promote successful customer engagements worldwide.
• Produce technical content: blogs, whitepapers, and presentations for conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced technical degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 4–10 years of experience leading customers with mainframe and legacy modernization initiatives.
• Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Cloud Foundry) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Knowledge of on‑premises mainframe application analysis and modernization planning.
• Business and IT architecture certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, SAFe).
• Fluent in written and verbal English; other EMEA languages a plus.
• Willingness to travel to customers worldwide as needed.

Technical Expertise (Choose at least one area)

• Infrastructure Modernization
  • Migration of mainframe workloads via emulation, automated code conversion, and re‑platforming.
  • COBOL modernization and cross‑platform code porting.
  • Hands‑on experience with legacy technologies (COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 for z/OS, Assembler, PL/I, Rexx, VSAM).
  • Design and architecture of distributed cloud environments (OpenShift, Kubernetes, containers).
• Application Modernization
  • Refactoring complex business applications with microservices, serverless, and API strategies.
  • Cloud‑native application design and deployment.
  • Extraction of business rules from legacy code.
  • High‑availability, fault‑tolerant systems with load balancing and scaling.
  • API exposure and microservice architecture.
• Process Modernization
  • Full understanding of SDLC and DevOps toolchain.
  • Automation pipelines in GitHub, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins.
  • Agile practices: TDD, CI/CD, DevOps, test data management.
  • Implementation and operation of DevOps tools across development lifecycles.
