Organizational Context

ShareTheMeal is WFP’s fundraising and awareness-raising app. Free to download, the award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger. ShareTheMeal was launched in 2015 as the first pilot of WFP’s Innovation Accelerator, which among other things supports start-ups and innovators in developing their ideas for zero hunger.

ShareTheMeal currently has more than 1.9 million users worldwide, who have shared more than 290 million meals (US$ 200 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving, and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team, located in Berlin and remotely, is focused on increasing the funds raised to help get to zero hunger by further developing the app to include new and innovative features, increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives. As the user base has grown, there is a significant opportunity to increase funds raised from existing users and deliver an exceptional experience to build a long‑term relationship with each supporter.

Purpose of the Assignment

For our new growth plan focused on content and localisation as we expand our marketing activities into new countries, we are looking for a data‑driven search ads specialist to join our marketing team. This role sits within the marketing team and will focus on growing our donor base through paid search campaigns.

The candidate will be responsible for driving high‑intent traffic and customer acquisition through paid search channels such as Google Ads, ASA, and other search networks. They will manage end‑to‑end SEM campaigns, from keyword research to bidding strategy to performance analysis and landing page testing. They will work with content and localisation stakeholders to ensure best‑in‑class, localised content on all our local market channels.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Own strategy, execution, and optimisation of Google Ads accounts
  • Own strategy, execution, and optimisation of Apple Search Ads accounts
  • Conduct in‑depth keyword research, segmentation, and targeting strategy
  • Own growth strategy and campaign implementation across all marketplaces, including research and launch into new high‑potential markets
  • Work with content and localisation stakeholders on creating compelling ad copy aligned with brand tone and optimised for conversion
  • Continuously monitor and optimise campaigns based on performance (CTR, CPA, ROAS, CPI)
  • Manage and optimise bidding strategies
  • Collaborate with experimentation and data science teams to improve conversion funnel and attribution
  • Stay current with Google Ads updates, competitor activity, and industry best practices
  • Own regular performance reviews to share performance and activities with leadership
  • Lead the execution, and optimisation of high‑impact digital performance marketing strategies to support the ShareTheMeal app and website
  • Develop comprehensive media plans that align with business goals, ensuring strategic allocation of budgets across channels and markets for maximum impact and returns
  • Regularly analyse data to assess the effectiveness of marketing efforts and provide insights for optimisation
  • Explore and test new acquisition channels to diversify fundraising efforts and reach new audiences
  • Utilise data insights and behavioural analysis to identify and engage with different personas, optimising campaign messaging, creative and targeting to increase conversion rates and supporters’ retention

Deliverables at the End of the Contract

  • Weekly performance reports with insights and next steps
  • Monthly keyword performance review and expansion plan
  • Budget pacing tracker and recommendations for reallocation
  • Landing page optimisation recommendations
  • Key campaigns are prepared and executed in a timely manner and to high quality standards
  • Impact of the campaigns is measured and documented; the reports are handed over to the Head of Marketing
  • A portfolio of efficient marketing campaigns that successfully maximise funds from new and existing supporters globally, in line with fundraising targets

Qualifications and Experience

Education: University degree in marketing, communication, international relations, computer science or a related field.

Work history: 5 years’ experience managing Search Ads marketing campaigns; Experience in managing multi‑million budgets.

Hard Skills

  • Data‑driven and detail‑oriented; expert in Google Ads and performance marketing
  • Proven track record of hitting CPA/ROAS goals in performance‑driven environments
  • Proficiency in Google Ads Editor, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), and conversion tracking
  • Familiar with scripts, automation, and feed‑based ad structures
  • Excellent Excel/Sheets skills for data analysis
  • Google Ads Certification is a plus

  • Strong analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Ability to make technical decisions that balance platform‑specific needs with cross‑platform efficiency
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills

Language(s)

Excellent command of spoken and written English. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language would be a plus (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
