The "High-Performance Cutting" department develops technologies and application-oriented solutions for cutting along the entire process chain – from process design and pre-process simulation to real-time data acquisition during production, consulting, and prototype manufacturing. The employees conduct research in many innovative topics, such as artificial intelligence, data-based quality prediction or even ecological life cycle assessment. Optimizing manufacturing processes for turbomachines especially aeroengine components are major focus area of the department. Previous research has shown that process planning has a high potential for automated optimization. Building upon this, you will advance our optimization pipeline and evaluate different optimization algorithms/strategies.

  • Create an interface between CAM and process simulation platforms to accelerate process optimization
  • Exploring different strategies for toolpath optimization
  • Data processing, analysis and visualization
  • Preparation and documentation of results

What you contribute

  • You are studying mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science or a comparable subject
  • You have good knowledge of Python
  • You have basic knowledge of the theory of machining
  • Experience in CAD/CAM software like Rhino or Siemens NX is a big plus
  • Good language skills in German and/or English
