Join to apply for the Master Thesis / Internship (f/m/x) in Communication Technology role at German Aerospace Center (DLR) .
The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. Its work ranges from the theoretical foundations to the demonstration of new procedures and systems in a real environment and is embedded in DLR's Space, Aeronautics, Transport, Security and Digitalization programmes.
In our modern society localization systems play an important role and people and industries depend on their availability. It is therefore desired to have a localization system that is available in all environments. For outdoor environments accurate localization is provided by globally available satellite-based systems such as GPS and Galileo. In contrast to outdoor environments, indoors typically no localization system is available. In your thesis/internship you therefore will work on the development of a novel magnetic field-based localization system. The proposed system uses distortions in the Earth magnetic field caused by magnetic material in buildings. The position estimation is done by comparing measurements of a magnetometer to a known map of the magnetic field. Having an accurate and updated map is therefore crucial for accurate localization. The thesis/internship focuses on the generation and the updating of magnetic maps and investigates to which extent a lidar-based SLAM system can support the map generation process.
DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.
We look forward to getting to know you!
