In this role, you will be working at our Research Lab in Aachen. The Eaton Research Lab (ERL) focuses on pioneering technologies and future megatrends in energy management. In collaboration with the Research Campus Flexible Electrical Grids at RWTH Aachen University, we develop innovative solutions in the field of power management, supported by government funding for research and development projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will write a master’s thesis on the topic "Energy Management System Tool for DC Grids." Additionally, you will conduct a literature review on Energy Management System algorithms and control strategies. Your work will also focus on the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) (e.g., solar, wind) and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) (e.g., batteries) into the DC grid. In your master’s thesis you will also focus on:

• Adaptive voltage sharing control for DC grids
• Developing algorithms to optimize power and energy flow and minimize losses within the DC grid
• Strategies for load balancing and peak shaving to enhance grid stability
• Using simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink) to test and validate the EMS under various scenarios

Your Skills And Competences

We are looking for a master’s student in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with knowledge of the principles of power electronics and DC grids.

Skills

• A solid understanding of the principles of power electronics and DC grids
• Previous experience with EMS tools is an advantage
• Experience with simulation platforms such as MATLAB/Simulink or PSCAD is desired
• Strong teamwork skills
