In the Managed Services department, customers rely on us to keep their MySQL databases running smoothly, providing 24/7 support from world-class DBAs and delivering high-quality service to customers around the globe. Our focus is on incident management, outages, complex projects, and proactive recommendations for environment improvements to achieve customer satisfaction and measurable business results.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database availability and performance.
- Build strong relationships with customers, understand their needs, and ensure ongoing satisfaction through regular communication and engagement.
- Plan, schedule, and perform technical tasks to deliver the best solutions on time.
- React quickly to incidents and implement solutions aimed at continuous environmental improvement.
- Work remotely in a fast-paced environment, supporting the company’s most critical systems. A reliable high-speed internet connection is required.
Qualifications
Technical Skills
- 3+ years of experience working with relational databases.
- Solid understanding of Linux OS fundamentals.
- Proficient in shell usage (e.g., less, nano, vim, grep, cd, df, top, ls, etc.).
- Able to use SSH to connect to remote systems using passwords and public/private keys.
- Understanding of system performance concepts (I/O, load, CPU, RAM, disk usage).
- Familiarity with automation tools and practices.
- Basic knowledge of InnoDB internals and Performance Schema.
- Ability to optimize MySQL queries.
- Experience with Percona Toolkit or similar tools.
- Deep understanding of replication models, including GTID-based replication.
- Skilled at troubleshooting issues in MySQL environments.
- Knowledge of backup and high-availability (HA) solutions and strategies.
- Familiarity with virtually synchronous replication technologies such as PXC and InnoDB Group Replication.
Non-Technical Skills
- Ability to independently assess the impact of issues on customer environments.
- Capable of executing approved change management and implementation plans.
- Adherence to incident management and operational procedures.
- Strong written communication skills in English.
- Ability to write clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
- Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and customers.
- Able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Positive, helpful, and team-oriented attitude.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in database management systems.
- Willingness to contribute to the continuous improvement of operational processes.
Desirable / Standout Qualifications
- Deep technical expertise in various MySQL architectures (Backups, Percona XtraDB Cluster/Galera, Group Replication, Semi-Synchronous and Asynchronous Replication).
- Strong query optimization skills.
- Proficiency with Percona Toolkit tools like pt-online-schema-change, pt-table-checksum, and pt-table-sync, including their potential impact.
- Experience using Ansible for automation.
- Familiarity with PMM (Percona Monitoring and Management).
- Knowledge of Kubernetes.
- Experience with cloud platforms and DBaaS (Database-as-a-Service) models.
- Exposure to PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB.
- Understanding of the managed services provider model.
Working Hours
We operate on a Follow the Sun support model with four global shifts. This position covers the EMEA shift (UTC):
- APAC shift: 12:30 AM – 6:30 AM UTC
- EMEA shift: 6:30 AM – 12:30 PM UTC
- US East shift: 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM UTC
- US West shift: 6:30 PM – 12:30 AM UTC
Each team member is assigned on-call duties one weekend per month, covering 12 hours on Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday. Some travel may be required for internal meetings.
