Network Engineer – Space Communications (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

Role Purpose: Responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing network architectures for communication between space assets to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performance data transmission.

Key Responsibilities

• Design network architectures for space (ISLs, user access, feeder links)
• Define and implement routing protocols (DTN, IP over space links, autonomous routing)
• Integrate the space network, including management and control functions
• Collaborate with engineers to embed network capabilities into spacecraft systems
• Optimize network performance (latency, bandwidth, orbital dynamics)
• Support simulation and validation of network behavior in mission scenarios
• Coordinate subcontractors and oversee technical requirements
• Contribute to innovative R&D initiatives in space communication

Your Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 3+ years of experience in network engineering, ideally in space communications
• Expertise in space communication protocols, DTN, and IP networking in space
• Experience with satellite constellations and onboard network integration
• Familiarity with network simulation tools (e.g., ns-3, OPNET) and Linux-based systems
• Understanding of cybersecurity in space systems and secure communication protocols
• Excellent communication skills and team leadership experience
• Cisco or Juniper certifications a plus
