Part-Time Data Center Technician — Equinix FR8 Frankfurt (Freelance, ~50 hrs/month)

Overview

FDC Servers is a global dedicated-server and IP-transit provider (AS30058) with 25+ years in the industry. We operate across 28+ data centers worldwide, with Frankfurt FR8 as one of our largest European deployments.

We're building out a small network of dedicated local technicians instead of rotating third-party remote-hands vendors. You'd be one person responsible for our gear in Frankfurt — primarily in our FR8 cage, with occasional work on our single rack at FR6 — consistent, familiar with our setup, building a real understanding of our environment.

Responsibilities

• Rack, stack, and cable Dell, HP, Supermicro, and Juniper gear
• Swap drives, NICs, PSUs, and RAM when our remote engineers request it
• Handle incoming shipments, cross-connects, and inventory — primarily in our FR8 cage, plus occasional shipments and work at our single rack in FR6
• Keep the cage organized — cabling labeled, spares in bins, no mess
• Respond to tickets within agreed SLA (business hours, occasional after-hours for P1)
• Communicate with our remote engineering team via Google Chat during work

Qualifications

• Already working on-site at FR8, FR6, — ideally a freelancer at an existing DC services company, or a technician from another tenant who wants steady side income
• Strong cabling discipline — we care about this more than most
• Experience with server hardware (not just installs — also troubleshooting faulty DIMMs, failed PSUs, IPMI issues)
• Comfortable with Juniper and Cisco switching (patch, replace optics, trace light levels)
• Equinix FR8 site access already (required), plus FR6 access or ability to obtain it
