Job Description
In order to support the "Payload Data Processing" team, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a Development Engineer. The role focuses on the design, development and verification of algorithms for geometric, radiometric and spectral processing of remote sensing data from space‑born instruments. You will work closely with Space System projects and the international scientific and engineering community, ensuring that data quality, content and reliability meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and analyze algorithms for the geometric, radiometric and spectral processing of remote sensing data from space‑born instruments (imager, radar, sounder).
- Define, implement and use simulation models to generate representative data for algorithm analysis, covering observation scenes, instrument signal paths and satellite characteristics.
- Establish specifications and verification plans for end‑to‑end simulators supporting performance assessments and operational processing of satellite remote sensing data.
- Collaborate with multinational teams and maintain good relationships with international customers, subcontractors, laboratories and scientific institutions.
- Demonstrate initiative to bring ideas for further development of data‑processing methods.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Simulations, Modelling, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven expertise in at least one of image processing, geometric data processing (geolocation), geodesy, spectrometer or interferometer or radar data processing, Earth remote sensing, or space instrument design and performance.
- Strong physical and mathematical background.
- General knowledge of numerical modelling and simulation.
- Software engineering experience (Git, continuous integration, software builds).
- Programming knowledge in C++, Python or MATLAB.
- Experience working in an agile software project (Scrum) is an asset.
- Background knowledge of space‑industry processes and standards is an asset.
- Fluent in English and German.
