PhD Position - Cell death driven inflammation in disease

PhD Position - Cell death driven inflammation in disease – Stuttgart
Universität Stuttgart
Raum Stuttgart

The Department of Genome Editing at the Institute of Biomedical Genetics (IBMG), University of Stuttgart, invites applications for a PhD position. We study how cell death and inflammatory signalling intersect to drive human disease. The PhD candidate will explore the molecular basis of metabolic diseases, dissecting how defects in cellular clearance and stress responses contribute to cardiac, muscular, and neurodegenerative pathologies.

The University of Stuttgart is one of Germany's leading technological universities with strong profiles in engineering, technical medicine, and physics. IBMG leverages this ecosystem through close collaborations that span molecular biology, genetics, computation, and engineering, enabling access to advanced instrumentation, modelling, and technology transfer opportunities.

As a PhD Researcher, You Will

  • Design and execute experiments to dissect mechanisms of cell death and inflammatory signalling.
  • Employ molecular, cellular, and in vivo approaches to build and analyse disease models.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (e.g. imaging, computational modelling, bioinformatics).
  • Present findings in lab meetings, seminars, and conferences; contribute to manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Support training activities for junior researchers (MSc) and students (BSc).

We offer

  • A multidisciplinary, innovative research environment with state‑of‑the‑art facilities.
  • Intensive mentoring and tailored support for your scientific development.
  • Regular interactions with global leaders from academia.
  • Access to seminar series spanning cell death, inflammation, metabolism and cancer.
  • Employment under the TV‑L pay scale; competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • A supportive, friendly workplace with opportunities for professional growth.
