The GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) is one of the world's largest research projects, and is under construction through international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment with a team of employees committed to world‑class science. The Nuclear Astrophysics department conducts experiments at the intersection of atomic physics, nuclear structure, and astrophysics by employing stored stable as well as radioactive beams of highly charged ions. The research is conducted at the storage rings of GSI, namely the Experimental Storage Ring ESR and the dedicated low‑energy ring CRYRING. In the framework of strategic cooperation between GSI and the University of Cologne, a GSI outpost is being established at the University of Cologne. The University of Cologne, with its 10 MV Tandem accelerator in operation, offers excellent conditions for the development, construction, and testing of these detector systems before they are deployed at the GSI/FAIR storage rings.
We offer a unique opportunity to work in an exciting and highly stimulating environment within the framework of world‑leading scientific topics. This position provides the opportunity to work in a very diverse and interesting environment at the interface between GSI and the University of Cologne. Further knowledge can be acquired or expanded through training and continuing education opportunities. The contract is limited for 3 years. The salary and benefits are based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD‑Bund) effective at GSI. GSI supports the professional development of women. Therefore, women are especially encouraged to apply for the position. Handicapped persons will be preferentially considered when equally qualified.
