Overview

The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) invites applications for a PhD student position in the Weierstrass Group "Data-driven Optimization and Control". The position (Ref. 24 / 08) will be filled at the earliest possible date.

Responsibilities

  • Research in principled optimal transport theory, optimization, and machine learning.
  • Contribute to the Ph.D. project on optimal transport and gradient flows for machine learning and optimization, probabilistic machine learning, Bayesian inference, sampling, robustness, causal inference, robust learning, robust optimization, and continuous optimization for machine learning.
  • Collaborate closely with Dr. Jia‑Jie Zhu.
  • Deliver high‑quality technical reports and publications in relevant venues.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics.
  • Strong background in machine learning or optimization, preferably in optimal transport for machine learning applications.
  • Demonstrated experience through technical reports or publications, e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AISTATS, AAAI, CoLT, JMLR, TMLR.
  • Optional: Applied or industrial experience in deep learning.

Job Details

  • Duration: 3 years.
