Population and Social Data Science Summer Incubator Program

Join the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) for a 3‑month (June 8 – August 21 2026) Summer Research Visit focused on Population and Social Data Science . The program brings together data scientists and population scientists to work on collaborative, impactful projects.

Program Highlights

Small, interdisciplinary teams mentored by experienced researchers.
Hands‑on projects with results expected to be published in a scientific journal.
Access to lectures and other scientific activities at MPIDR.
Travel reimbursement and a living grant during residence in Rostock.

Research Focus Areas

Spatial Mobility and Scientific Production – mentored by Aliakbar Akbaritabar, Andrés Castro (CSSH‑BSC), and Irena Chen.
Digitalization, AI, and Inequalities – mentored by Carolina Coimbra Vieira, Megan Evans, Nkechi S. Owoo (University of Ghana), and Emilio Zagheni.

Eligibility and Requirements

Enrolled in a taught or research doctoral or master’s programme at the time of the visit.
Approval to participate required from your supervisor/administrator.
Demonstrated independent research experience and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
Strong interest in data science applied to social science problems.
