Friedrich‑Alexander‑Universität Erlangen‑Nürnberg (FAU) invites applications for a Post‑Doctoral researcher in Experimental Physics. The position is full‑time, located at the Institute for Optics, Information and Photonics, Staudtstr. 7, 91058 Erlangen, Germany. The employment starts as soon as possible, with an end date of 31 December 2026.

Responsibilities

• Design and fabrication of next‑generation multi‑qubit quantum processors to enable hardware‑efficient quantum error correction.
• Exploration of novel circuit‑QED components for fast and high‑fidelity gates and measurements.
• Development, fabrication and characterization of 3D‑integrated multi‑chip modules.
• Research on elements for quantum communication and modular quantum computing.
• Improvement of qubit coherence through new materials, processes, and chip designs.
• Systems integration and real‑time system control enabled by machine learning.
• Tuning, operation, and algorithmic benchmarking of quantum‑computing hardware.

Qualifications

• Ph D in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Micro‑and Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in experimental realizations of quantum information processing systems.
• Dedication to a successful research career in academia or industry.

Preferred Experience

• Quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, trapped ions, semiconductor quantum dots or color centers.
• Experimental quantum optics and atomic physics, cavity‑QED.
• Micro‑and nano‑scale electronic device fabrication (cleanroom, deposition, lithography, etching). Mesoscopic solid‑state physics, low‑temperature physics, operation of dilution refrigerators, microwave electronics, digital electronics, FPGAs, instrumentation, software development.
