Postdoc (f/m/d) Development of Stable and Highly Efficient Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cells

Stellenbeschreibung:

Postdoc (f/m/d) Development of Stable and Highly Efficient Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cells

Reference No.: SE 2026/4

Helmholtz‑Zentrum Berlin (HZB) conducts fundamental and applied research on energy materials and operates advanced analytical facilities, including the BESSY II synchrotron. For the next generation photovoltaics (PV), HZB performs materials research and device development up to the industrial level. The department of perovskite tandem solar cells develops metal halide perovskite solar cells and achieved several world records for perovskite‑silicon (32.5%) and perovskite‑CIGS (24.2%) tandem solar cells in the past years. New projects started with the goal to maximise the stability of the tandem architecture by further developing the optoelectronic parameters of the top cell. Here, we look for investigating fundamental process‑ and material properties, understanding film formation and crystallisation, implementation into tandem solar cells, high operational stability, and large‑area scaling. To reach our ambitious goals, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced scientist/postdoc in the field of perovskite solar cells, who is eager to work in our international and multidisciplinary group.

Your Tasks

  • Manufacturing of high‑efficiency perovskite single‑junction and perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells
  • Specific device characterisation, experimental loss analysis, and simulation of single films and complete solar cells
  • Coordinating development work and experiments in cooperation within HZB and other institutes as well as industrial partners
  • Publication of the scientific results at international conferences and peer‑reviewed journals as well as project proposal writing and acquisition of new third‑party funded projects

Your Profile

  • Completed doctoral degree in chemistry, materials science, physics, engineering or a related field
  • In‑depth knowledge of semiconductor technology and the physics of multijunction solar cells
  • Hands‑on experience in processing thin films and perovskite/silicon solar cells in the topic of perovskite technology
  • Excellent analytical, communication and organisational skills
  • Enthusiasm about solar cells with drive for reliability, efficiency and team spirit

Your Benefits

As an employer, your well‑being and a good balance between work and private life are important to us. That’s why we offer you a wide range of benefits.

  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate‑neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
  • State‑of‑the‑art labs and infrastructure for perovskite solar cells
  • Integration into specific EU, national, and industry projects
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely
  • Career‑enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Centre and Postdoc Office
  • 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan and capital‑forming benefits
  • Advisory services on family and career matters through our Office for Work & Life
  • Subsidy for public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts
  • Relocation support from non‑EU countries
  • German courses for all proficiency levels

Fixed term contract for 17 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
