Postdoctoral position in Computational Biology (f/m/x) Wiss | Institute for Biological Physics & CRC 1310

University of Cologne, a leading university in Europe, is searching for an excellent computational biologist to work in the Collaborative Research Center Predictability in Evolution and the Institute for Biological Physics. The role involves high‑throughput data analysis, algorithm development, and close collaboration with scientists across the center.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of high‑throughput molecular data.
  • Algorithm design and optimization for dedicated evolutionary problems.
  • Developing independent strategies for data evaluation and scientific problem solving.
  • Close cooperation with other scientists at our Center from the planning of experiments to the interpretation of the results.
  • Developing custom computational tools to address current public health topics, including the analysis of large‑scale biological datasets.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Advanced skills in data manipulation, analysis, and development of in‑house code.
  • Proven advanced expertise in at least one of the following areas:
  • Algorithm design.
  • Analysis of high‑throughput molecular data, e.g. single‑cell RNA‑seq data.
  • Machine learning and language models for biological data.
  • Interest in the scientific focus of the Center.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
