Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) — Supported Lipid Bilayers (SLBs) on Silicon Oxide for Wearable Biosensing

Location: Dresden, Germany | Start: as soon as possible | Duration: 17 month (prolongation possible)

About Aster Bioelectronics

Aster Bioelectronics (GO-Bio funded) develops a wearable biosensor for continuous biomarker monitoring in interstitial fluid. The core technology is a robust bio–silicon interface: functional supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) on silicon oxide chips. Biology partners provide proteins/antibodies and labeled constructs; you will translate these into a stable, quantitative SLB-on-chip assay platform. Collaboration with teams at TUD and TUM.

Your role (what you will do)

  • Form and optimize supported lipid bilayers on Si/SiO₂ chips (surface preparation, protocol development, QC metrics).
  • Assemble functional biomolecular layers on SLBs (e.g., His-tag/Ni-NTA, biotin–streptavidin, and other orthogonal coupling strategies as needed).
  • Design and execute stability and performance assays:
  • protein incorporation/binding stability, mobility, and retention over time
  • nonspecific adsorption / fouling resistance in relevant buffers and conditions
  • Run binding and interaction assays on SLBs, including fluorescence-based methods (e.g., FRET, colocalization, kinetics), and contribute to data interpretation.
  • Collaborate closely with protein/assay development partners, translate biological requirements into surface/membrane engineering specs, and document protocols for reproducibility and scale-up.

Your profile (what we’re looking for)

  • PhD in biophysics, physical chemistry, bioengineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on expertise with SLBs and membrane functionalization (ideally on SiO₂ or comparable surfaces).
  • Strong experimental rigor: controls, reproducibility, quantitative readouts, and clear documentation.
  • Fluorescence microscopy/spectroscopy for membrane systems (FRET, FRAP/FCS is a plus).
  • Surface/interface characterization (e.g., QCM-D, SPR, ellipsometry, AFM) and/or microfluidic assay handling.
  • Experience working across disciplines (biology ↔ materials/semiconductor interface) and translating prototypes into robust workflows is a plus.

What we offer

  • Full‑time postdoctoral contract at TU Dresden
  • A role at the heart of a deep‑tech biosensing effort with real‑world impact (continuous monitoring).
  • High autonomy and ownership of a critical technology module (membrane‑on‑chip reliability).
  • Close collaboration with partners at TU Dresden and TUM, with access to strong infrastructure and expertise.
