Position: Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD).

Location: Pfotenhauerstr. 108, 01307 Dresden, Germany. Language: English.

Overview

The MPI-CBG is a basic research institute dedicated to multiscale biological discovery through interdisciplinary approaches. The research group of Dr. Nagaraja Chappidi investigates how macromolecular assemblies and compartment-like structures contribute to accurate DNA replication and repair.

Responsibilities

• Drive independent and collaborative research to dissect mechanistic principles of compartmentalization in DNA replication and repair.
• Reconstitute multi-protein assemblies.
• Perform quantitative single-molecule imaging experiments (e.g., TIRF microscopy, optical tweezers).
• Develop novel biophysical or biochemical assays.
• Validate emergent principles in mammalian cells or disease models.
• Integrate concepts across biophysics, biochemistry, and genome maintenance.
• Present findings at internal meetings and international conferences.
• Contribute to publications and support a positive team culture.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biophysics, or a related life science field.
• Strong motivation, reliability, ability to work independently and in a team.
• Experience contributing to scientific publications or presentations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Hands‑on expertise in single-molecule biophysical methods (TIRF microscopy, optical tweezers).
• Protein biochemistry: purification and quantitative assay development.
• Cell‑based techniques (mammalian cell culture, imaging).
• Effective collaboration in interdisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical reasoning and persistence in experimental work.
