Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Neuroscience of Learning and Decision Making

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position for three years in the Biological Psychology of Decision Making group headed by Prof Gerhard Jocham.

The lab investigates the neural and computational mechanisms of (reward-guided) learning and decision making in humans. There is some flexibility regarding the exact thematic focus of the position, but it should fall within the broad scope of the research in the lab. Possible topics include neuropharmacology of learning and choice, foraging behaviour, naturalistic decision making.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in the neuroscience of decision making and learning.
  • PhD (or currently working towards one) in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g. Matlab, Python) are essential; experience with EEG or MEG is desirable.
  • Keen interest in formal models of behaviour and neural activity.
  • Good communication skills; can work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Excellent command of English.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cutting‑edge research on learning and decision making, including neuropharmacology, foraging behaviour, naturalistic decision making, and related topics.
  • Develop and implement computational models and behavioural experiments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the departments of Psychology, Medicine, and the Research Centre Jülich.
  • Teach (4 hours/week) in either German or English.
  • Contribute to the scientific community through publications, conferences, and outreach.
